Women's Volleyball Tripped Up 3-0 by the University of Saint Joseph in Non-Conference Action

MILTON, Mass. – Visiting University of Saint Joseph blanked Curry College, 3-0, on Tuesday night in non-conference women's volleyball action. The set scores were 25-18, 25-17 and 25-21. The Blue Jays improved to 10-3 on the season, while the Colonels fell to 6-14.

In the first set, Saint Joseph maintained a lead throughout, en route to the 25-18 final. Curry scored first in the second set, but the Blue Jays rallied to top the Colonels, 25-17. In a back-and-forth third set, Curry couldn't complete a comeback bid and was edged by Saint Joseph, 25-21.

The Blue Jays were led by junior Tiffany Mapusaga (Waianae, Hawaii) with 11 digs and a match-best nine kills. Senior Megan Williams (Lakeville, Conn.) dished out a match-high 21 assists, to go along with four service aces. Classmate Elizabeth Tuazon (Mystic, Conn.) and junior Emily Vigue (Lebanon, Conn.) recorded 10 digs apiece.

Freshman Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) led the Colonels with four total blocks (1 solo) and a team-high eight kills. Sophomore Kayla Pedersen (Whitman, Mass.) added six kills and six total blocks (3 solo). Freshman Courtney Carroll (Fairhaven, Mass.) had a game-best 13 digs, while sophomore Makayla Hughes (Franklin, Mass.) chipped in with 10 assists.

Saint Joseph travels to Hudson, N.Y. on Saturday for a tri-match, facing CCNY at 1:00 p.m., followed by a matchup against host Bard College. Curry resumes play tomorrow night, hosting Western New England for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest at 6:00 p.m.
