Women's Volleyball Cruises to a Pair of 3-0 Victories at Pine Manor Tri-Match

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Curry College went 2-0 during a tri-match at Pine Manor College's Brunelli Court on Saturday afternoon. The Colonels improved to 6-13 after posting a pair of 3-0 victories over the host Gators and the Buccaneers of Mass. Maritime. 

Curry 3, Pine Manor 0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-19)

Curry freshman Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) put down a match-high 8 kills, registering two solo blocks and four block assists to lead the visiting Colonels to a 3-0 sweep of host Pine Manor. Christina Wallis (Peabody, Mass.) added six kills and four block assists, while Nicole Grambley (North Attleboro, Mass) dished out 13 assists and collected a match-high 13 digs.

For Pine Manor, Natasia Franklin (Windsor, Conn.) and Susan Le (Lowell, Mass.) each put down seven kills while Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Alaska) led the PMC offense with a match-high 21 assists. PMC senior Phalogne Pierre (Boston, Mass.) also added four kills for the Gators.

The Colonels got out to a big lead in set one, leading 9-1 before cruising to the 25-18 victory. Curry opened the second set like the first, taking a 10-3 lead en route to a 25-20 win. In the third set, the Gators opened with a 12-5 lead following a kill from Franklin. However, Curry would rally, closing the gap to 14-12 before tying the match at 14-all and eventually overtaking the Gators for the 25-19 victory.

Curry 3, Mass. Maritime 0 (25-10, 25-9, 25-11)

In the middle match of the day, the Colonels continued to cruise, posting straight victories of 25-10, 25-9 and 25-11 over the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
Rice again anchored the Curry attack with a match-high 13 kills, hitting .500 on the match. Kayla Pederson (Whitman, Mass.) and Wallis added eight and seven kills for the Colonels. Grambley added 21 more assists in middle match to finish with a total of 34 assists on the day.

Mass. Maritime's Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.) had four kills to lead the Buccaneers while Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.) added three kills on a team-high 15 attempts. Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass.) and Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) each recorded a team-high four digs for MMA.
