Women's Volleyball Outlasts Visiting Becker, 3-1

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College defeated visiting Becker College, 3-1, in non-conference women's volleyball action Tuesday night in Milton. Set scores were 25-18, 14-25, 25-20, 25-23. The Colonels improved to 2-5 on the season, while the Hawks fell to 1-7.

Curry outlasted the visitors in the first set, 25-18. Becker recuperated in the second set and topped the Colonels, 25-14. Curry went on to win the third set, 25-20, and then survived a back-and-forth affair to take the fourth set, 25-23.

Sophomore Nicole Grambley (North Attleboro, Mass.) recorded match-highs in kills (12), assists (14) and service aces (7), while also adding 17 digs. Freshman Courtney Carroll (Fairhaven, Mass.) had a team-best 21 digs. Senior Christina Wallis (Peabody, Mass.) chipped in with nine kills and three block assists, while freshman Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) had four blocks (3 solo).

The Hawks were led by freshman Kirsti Hadzewycz (Daytona Beach, Fla.) with a team-high nine kills and four service aces, while classmate Chase Peterson (Redding, Conn.) recorded a match-best 27 digs. Sophomore Marissa Turner (Coventry, R.I.) also added 15 digs.

Curry travels to Wesleyan University for a weekend quad match. The Colonels will play Worcester State on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. Becker hosts MCLA on Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
