Volleyball Goes 1-1 at Mass. Maritime Invitational, Knocking Off Host Buccaneers After Falling to Southern Maine

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -  Freshman Jessica Williamson (Goffstown, N.H.) registered 34 kills and 27 digs to lead Southern Maine to a sweep of a non-league college volleyball tri-match from host Massachusetts Maritime and Curry by identical 3-0 finals on Saturday afternoon at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.  In the final contest of the day, Curry collected a 3-0 triumph over the host Buccaneers.
 
Williamson recorded 13 kills and 10 digs for the unbeaten Huskies (5-0) in the opening 25-8, 25-3, 25-7 victory over Massachusetts Maritime (0-3), while fellow freshman Monica Raymond (Sanbornton, N.H.) added 10 kills and four digs.  Sophomore Megan Nilson (Granby, Conn.) notched 24 set assists in the opener for Southern Maine, which also received 17 digs from junior Demi Ruder (Grand Junction, Colo.) and nine service aces from sophomore Karina Zellou (Marshfield, Maine).
 
In the middle match, Williamson added 21 kills and 14 digs to her day's work for the Huskies, who won by game scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-14.  Raymond and junior Renee Trottier (Biddeford, Maine) chipped in with eight and seven kills, respectively, while Nilson added 35 set assists and 10 digs for Southern Maine, which also received 10 digs from Ruder in completing the sweep.
 
Sophomore Nicole Grambley (North Attleboro, Mass.) notched 10 kills, 12 digs and eight service aces in Curry's (1-5) sweep of Massachusetts Maritime that came by identical game scores of 25-20.  Grambley finished the day with 12 kills for the Colonels, who also received a combined 10 kills (seven against the Buccaneers) from senior Christina Wallis (Peabody, Mass.).  Sophomore Makayla Hughes (Franklin, N.H.) and freshman Lauren Hall (Franklin, Mass.) also combined for 16 set assists on the day for Curry. 
 
Sophomore Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.) recorded seven kills on the day for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received four kills, 14 set assists and five service aces from senior Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.).  Sophomore Stephanie O'Connor (Westwood, Mass.) added 22 digs (14 against Curry) for the Buccaneers, who also received five service aces from junior Charleen Klangos (Lowell, Mass.).
 
Massachusetts Maritime heads into Boston on Tuesday evening to take on Suffolk in a non-league outing that begins at 7:00 p.m.  Southern Maine hosts Maine-Presque Isle and Castleton in a non-league tri-match Sunday morning in Gorham, Maine beginning at 11:00 a.m., while Curry entertains Becker in a non-league contest on Tuesday evening in Milton, Mass. that begins at 6:00 p.m. (Release courtesy of MMA Sports Information)
