Women's Volleyball Falls to Visiting CCC Rival Endicott, 3-0

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College lost 3-0 to visiting Endicott College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's volleyball action Thursday night in Milton. The Gulls improved to 11-9 on the season and 4-0 in the conference, while the Colonels dropped to 8-12 overall and 0-3 in league play.

In the opening set, Endicott cruised past Curry, 25-10, compiling a .467 hitting percentage with 16 kills. The Colonels played a more competitive second set, notching eight kills and a .161 attack percentage, but the Gulls would ultimately prevail, 25-17. Throughout the third and final set Endicott held a steady lead, en route to a 25-12 win to clinch the match.

The Gulls were led by freshman Lily Benabou (Medway, Mass.) with a match-high eight kills and three service aces. Classmate Erika Trudon (Coventry, Conn.) collected a game-best 15 digs and three service aces. Sophomore Alleigh VandeMerkt (Riverside, Ill.) dished out a match-high 34 assists.

Freshman Alyssa Keeney led the Colonels with a team-best six kills while contributing seven digs. Freshman Lauren Gaffney (Wallingford, Conn.) amassed a team high 13 digs, while classmate Makayla Hughes (Franklin, N.H.) recorded seven assists.

Both teams return to CCC action on Wednesday October 9. Curry will host the University of New England in a 6:00 p.m. contest, while Endicott travels to Salve Regina for a 7:00 p.m. match.
