Women's Volleyball Tops Johnson State, 3-0; Knocks Off Pine Manor, 3-0, in Curry Tri-Match

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College hosted Johnson State and Pine Manor in a non-conference women's volleyball tri-match Saturday in Milton. In the opening match, the Colonels knocked off the Badgers, 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-9). In the second match, the Gators outlasted Johnson State, 3-1 (25-17, 25-13, 19-25, 25-17). In the third and final match, Curry blanked Pine Manor, 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-15). The Colonels improved to 8-10 on the season, while the Badgers fell to 0-12. The Gators now stand at 1-11.

Curry 3, Johnson State 0

Curry was led by freshman Nicole Grambley (North Attleboro, Mass.) with game-highs in kills (8) and digs (18), while classmate Kayla Greeley (Medford, Mass.) dished out a match-best 17 assists. Freshman Lauren Gaffney (Wallingford, Conn.) chipped in with 10 service aces.

Freshman Domonique Carter-Stanley (Norwalk, Conn.) led Johnson State with team-highs in digs (12) and assists (7), while sophomore Andrea Williams (Thorborn, Nova Scotia) recorded seven kills.

Pine Manor 3, Johnson State 1

Pine Manor was led by junior Natasia Franklin (Windsor, Conn.) with a day-high 13 kills. Classmate Destiny Mann (Orland, Fla.) added 26 digs and 14 service aces. Freshman Alexis Bushika (Adams, Mass.) contributed 25 assists.

Williams recorded seven kills, while Carter-Stanley had a team-high 13 digs and added six assists. Freshman Anna Bingham (Island Pond, Vt.) recorded 11 digs and six assists.

Curry 3, Pine Manor 0

In the third match, Grambley had game-highs in kills (12) and service aces (6). Gaffney added 17 digs, while Greeley recorded 17 assists. Junior Christina Wallis (Peabody, Mass.) chipped in with 10 kills.

Mann led the Gators with a game-best 18 digs, while Bushika dished out a team-high 13 assists. Junior Phalogne Pierre (Boston, Mass.) recorded six kills.

Curry and Pine Manor return to action on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., as the Colonels travel to Western New England for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match, while the Gators host Mitchell in non-conference play. Johnson State resumes play on October 5, travelling to Castleton for a conference tri-match beginning at 2:00 p.m.
