Women's Volleyball Knocks Off Salem State, 3-1; Falls to Suffolk, 3-1, in Curry Tri-Match

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College hosted Salem State and Suffolk University in a women's volleyball tri-match Saturday in Milton. In the opening match, the Colonels topped the Vikings, 3-1 (25-16, 25-14, 24-26, 25-23). In the second match, Salem State fell to the Rams, 3-1 (25-19, 16-25, 25-22, 25-14). In the final match, Suffolk outlasted Curry, 3-1 (25-13, 25-16, 28-30, 25-23).

Curry 3, Salem State 1

The Colonels were led by junior Christina Wallis (Peabody, Mass.) with a team-high eight kills to go along with three blocks (2 solo). Freshman Lauren Gaffney (Wallingford, Conn.) recorded a game-best 20 digs, while junior Hannah Robison (Cumberland, R.I.) dished out 14 assists. Freshmen Nicole Grambley (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) added seven kills apiece.

Senior MacKenzie Carpenter (Peabody, Mass.) led the Vikings with a game-high 30 assists and contributed 14 digs. Classmate Nicole Roscoe (Lowell, Mass.) chipped in with 16 digs, while freshman Taylor Caruso (Winchendon, Mass.) had a game-best 12 kills.

Suffolk 3, Salem State 1

The Rams were led by junior Tori Brillaud (North Andover, Mass.) with a game-high 16 kills. Classmate Glamayrs Siera (Carolina, Puerto Rico) dished out 21 assists, while sophomore Kristin Hartnett (Wakefield, R.I.) recorded a game-high 19 digs.

Carpenter again led all players with 31 assists and added 11 digs, while senior Jazmin Santos (Lawrence, Mass.) contributed 13 kills. Freshman Jerika Santiago (Methuen, Mass.) chipped in with 13 digs.

Suffolk 3, Curry 1

In the third match, Brillaud accumulated a day-high 22 kills to go along with 18 digs. Sophomore Yabriel Perez (Santa Domingo, D.R.) and Hartnett added 21 and 19 digs, respectively. Siera chipped in with 18 assists.

Keeney led Curry with a team-high 19 kills, while also recording 16 digs. Robison contributed with a game-best 21 assists, while Grambley and Gaffney added 20 and 19 digs, respectively.

All three teams return to action on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. The Colonels now stand at 4-6 and resume play at Anna Maria on Tuesday. Suffolk improved to 6-4 and will travel to Wentworth for its next contest, while the Vikings fall to 1-2 and will host Framingham State for their next game.
