Women's Volleyball Edged 3-1 by Visiting CCC Rival Gordon
MILTON, Mass. - Gordon College junior Lauren Kranyak (Locust Grove, Va.) had a match-high 18 kills, leading the visiting Fighting Scots to a 3-1 victory over Curry College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match on Wednesday night in Milton.  Set scores were 25-20, 25-22, 24-26 and 25-12.  The Fighting Scots improved to 9-5 overall and 1-2 in the CCC, while the Colonels slipped to 7-5 overall and 0-3 in league play.

Gordon took the first two closely-contested sets, 25-20 and 25-22. During the second set, the Curry fell behind 20-12 before going on a 9-1 run to knot the score at 21-21. But the Fighting Scots used a 4-1 run to close out the set and establish a 2-0 lead.

In the third set, the Colonels built their largest lead at 15-10. The two teams then battled back and forth with multiple ties and lead changes resulting in a 24-24 draw. Curry ultimately pulled out a 26-24 victory to force a fourth set.

In the final set, Gordon cruised to a 25-12 victory to clinch the match. The visitors had their best hitting percentage (.242) of the night in the fourth frame.

In addition to Kranyak, Gordon was led by sophomore Joy Kimmel (Madison, Conn.), who dished out a match-high 38 assists.  Sophomore Krystal Vander Ark (Santa Barbara, Calif) had a team-high 17 digs.  Senior Keri Hustus (Eastford, Conn.) followed Vander Ark with 14 digs.

Curry was paced by Courtney DiBiasio (Coventry, R.I.) with 15 kills and 16 digs.  Junior Tyla Miller led the host team with a match-high 25 digs.  Sophomore Hannah Robison (Cumberland, R.I.) recorded a team-high 23 assists. Other contributors included senior Kendra LeMay (Chicopee, Mass.) with seven kills, and sophomore Tiana Sturtze (Worcester, Mass.) with one block solo and two block assists.

The Fighting Scots return to action on Friday, traveling to Western New England University to face the Golden Bears at 7:00 p.m.  The Colonels return to action on Saturday, hosting a tri-match against Wentworth and Framingham State starting at 10:00 a.m.
