MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team competed in a pair of matches during Curry's Homecoming and Family Weekend, but dropped a pair of 9-0 decisions to Nichols College and Emerson College. After the matches, the Colonels conclude their fall schedule with a final record of 0-16 with a 0-7 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC)

MATCH 1 – Nichols 9, Curry 0

The Bison got the only CCC match of the day going with a sweep of doubles play. Amarie Settiwongse (Bangkok, Thailand) and Isabelle Leonardi (North Hampton, N.H.) took first 8-1 over Sophia Wiernusz (Collegeville, Pa.) and Alison Daigle (Edgartown, Mass.). Megan Nathanson (Scarborough, Maine) and Rachel McDonald (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) blanked Natalie Valvo (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) and Kelsie Merrill (Hope, Maine) 8-0 at second. At third, Amanda Costa (Palmer, Mass.) and Juliana Herrera (Villavicencio, Colombia) won 8-1 over Samantha Gilbert (Bedford, Mass.) and Kayla Connors (Brockton, Mass.).

As singles play got underway, Settiwongse shutout Wiernusz 6-0, 6-0 at first, while Herrera took third by the same score over Valvo. Nathanson secured a 6-0, 6-1 win over Daigle at second and Danielle Mandel (Fair Lawn, N.J.) took fourth 6-0, 6-2 over Merrill. At fifth, Victoria Lussier (Attleboro, Mass.) downed Gilbert 6-1, 6-2, before the Bison completed the sweep as Emily Houchin (Durham, Conn.) took sixth by scores of 6-2, 6-4 over Connors.

MATCH 2 – Nichols 9, Emerson 0

The Bison got off to a hot start as Settiwongse and Leonardi beat Eliana Flores-Barber (Long Beach, Calif.) and Annie Woodbury (Salinas, Calif.) 8-4 at first. The later doubles match-ups both saw Nichols claim 8-0 victories, as Nathanson and McDonald topped Thea Nagle (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and Sophie Oglensky (West Long Branch, N.J.) at second, while Kara Stankewitz (Cologne, Germany) and Lindsey Kaplan (Boca Raton, Fla.) bested Cassie Burns (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Angelica Ao (Chongqing, China) at third.

Nichols rolled through singles play with several 6-0, 6-0 shutouts. Settiwongse blanked Flores-Barber at first, while third singles saw the same score with Nathanson topping Nagle. Stankewitz grabbed a 6-0, 6-3 victory at second over Woodbury, while Kaplan took fifth by a score of 6-0, 6-2 over Oglensky. The Bison completed their perfect day as Herrera topped Burns at fourth and Mandel defeated Ao at sixth, both by scores of 6-0, 6-0.

With the pair of wins, Nichols moves to 10-1 on the year with a final league mark of 7-0. The Bison will get back to action as they travel to Northampton, Mass. to compete in the New England Women's Tennis Invitational Tournament (NEWITT), starting Friday, October 11. Nichols will look to build on last year's performance, which saw two Bison pairs advance to the second round of the tournament.

MATCH 3 – Emerson 9, Curry 0

Emerson started the match with a sweep of doubles play. Flores-Barber and Woodbury topped Wiernusz and Daigle 8-0 at first. Nagle and Oglensky took an 8-5 win at second over Valvo and Merrill. Burns and Ao gave the guests a 3-0 advantage with an 8-2 triumph over Gilbert and Connors at third.

The Lions continued to control the match in singles play, as Flores-Barber topped Wiernusz 6-0, 6-0 at first, while Woodbury was credited with a win at second, as Daigle was forced to retire. Nagle took a 6-0, 6-1 win over Valvo at third, while Burns took fourth over Merrill, 7-6, 6-4. Oglensky won fifth over Gilbert by a score of 6-1, 6-1, while the Lions finished off the sweep with Ao's 6-4, 6-4 win over Connors at sixth.

The Lions conclude their fall schedule with a 3-2 record. Emerson will start their spring schedule with a March 4 match vs. Trine in Orlando, Fla. over the school's spring break. The start time of the match is yet to be determined.
