Roger Williams Shuts Out Women's Tennis

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to the Roger Williams Hawks at home on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Hawks remain unbeaten at 10-0 while moving to 5-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). The Colonels fall to 0-12 overall with a 0-5 mark in league play.

Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) and Heidi Martin (Scituate, Mass.) started the day with an 8-2 victory over Sophia Wiernusz (Collegeville, Pa.) and Natalie Valvo (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) at first doubles. Taryn Roche (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and Jessica Magliato (New Rochelle, N.Y.) earned another Hawk point by beating Alison Daigle (Edgartown, Mass.) and Samantha Gilbert (Bedford, Mass.) 8-1 at second. The Hawks took third doubles by default.

As singles play came around, Roger Williams continued to roll. Cahoon topped Wiernusz 6-2, 6-2 at first. Roche beat Daigle 6-1, 6-0 at second. At third, Martin took down Valvo 6-2, 6-1. Emma Place (Francestown, N.H.) blanked Gilbert 6-0, 6-0 at fourth, while Alexa DiCesare (Norwood, Mass.) took care of fifth over Kayla Connors (Brockton, Mass.), by the same score. The Hawks completed the sweep by taking sixth singles by default.

The Hawks will continue their CCC schedule with an important match vs. Nichols on Wednesday, October 2. Roger Williams will host the 4:00 p.m. contest. The Colonels will also pick up league play on Wednesday, with a road tilt with conference opponent Western New England  at 3:30 p.m.
