MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team suffered a home loss to the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Colonels drop to 0-5 on the season while the Corsairs start the year at 2-0.

The visitors began the contest by sweeping all three doubles matches, the third by default. In first doubles, Michelle Aftandilian (Watertown, Mass.) and Jaime Fastino (Rehoboth, Mass.) topped Sophia Wiernusz (Collegeville, Pa.) and Alison Daigle (Edgartown, Mass.) 8-6, before Rachel Aftandilian (Watertown, Mass.) and Jordan Martin (Taunton, Mass.) beat Sara Johnson (Amesbury, Mass.) and Natalie Valvo (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) by the same score.

Despite losing their doubles match, both Wiernusz and Daigle picked up their first singles wins of the season, each thanks to super tiebreakers. At first, Wiernusz topped Fastino 6-3, 4-6, 10-8, before Daigle edged out M. Aftandilian at second, 6-4, 2-6, 10-5. Johnson held a 3-2 lead over R. Aftandilian at third, but was forced to retire. Melanie Wong (Somerset, Mass.) beat Valvo at fourth 6-2, 6-3, while Jackie Bokis (Spencer, Mass.) bested Kelsie Merrill (Hope, Maine) 6-1, 6-3 at fifth. UMass Dartmouth picked up their seventh point of the afternoon by default at sixth.

The Colonels will look to rebound with a road match at Salve Regina on Saturday, September 14 at 12:00 p.m. The contest will mark the conference opener for both Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) squads. The Corsairs will look to continue rolling when they face the Lynx of Lesley University. The non-conference action will begin on Thursday, September 12 at 3:30 p.m. at UMass Dartmouth.
