Women’s Tennis Blanked on the Road

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Curry College women's tennis team fell to Rhode Island College (RIC) on Thursday afternoon. The loss drops the Colonels' record to 0-3, while the Anchorwomen improve to 2-0.

The RIC duo of Laurel Ten Eyck (Warwick, R.I.) and Grace Zangari (Saunderstown, R.I.) blanked the Colonels' Sophia Wiernusz (Collegeville, Pa.) and Alison Daigle (Edgartown, Mass.) at first doubles, 8-0. Sara Johnson (Amesbury, Mass.) and Natalie Valvo (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) won a game off of Emily Orticerio (Smithfield, R.I.) and Jenna Lisi (Cranston, R.I.), but ultimately fell 8-1 at second doubles. The Anchorwomen picked up the point for third doubles via forfeit.

Rhode Island remained dominant entering singles play, as Zangari and Victoria Vittori (New Bedford, Mass.) topped their opponents Daigle and Samantha Gilbert (Bedford, Mass.), respectively, each by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Lisi took the point at first singles, topping Wiernusz 6-0, 6-1, while Ten Eyck took third singles over Johnson by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Haily Raskob (North Smithfield, R.I.) took care of business at fourth over Valvo, 6-2, 6-1, and the Anchorwomen completed the sweep thanks to a forfeit at sixth singles.

Rhode Island looks to remain perfect when they face UMass Boston at home on Saturday, September 7 at 1:00 p.m. Curry gets back to action on Monday, September 9 at 3:30 p.m. at home against Clark University.
