Women's Tennis Drops Non-League Contest at Clark, 9-0

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's tennis team breezed to a 9-0 non-conference victory against Curry College Saturday at the Corash Tennis Courts.

Clark improved to 2-4 overall on the season. Curry dropped to 0-13.

The Cougars won 12 of the 13 sets played. Anna Gates (North Scituate, R.I.) defeated Sidara Cash-Sortwell (South Portland, Maine) 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Elizabeth Tchantouridze (Northfield, Vt.) topped Hannah Faghan (Whitman, Mass.) at No. 2 singles, 6-1 and 6-2. Maggie Tarbox (Lebanon, Conn.) took down Alison Daigle (Edgartown, Mass.) 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. Kathryn Benson (Hudson, Mass.) beat Rosario Robidoux (Agawam, Mass.) 6-4 and 6-2 at No. 4. Chloe Dunnell (Montclair, N.J.) blanked Hollie Wallace (Wrentham, Mass) 6-0 and 6-0 at No. 5 singles. The most competitive singles match was at No. 6 between Kelsie Merrill (Hope, Maine) and Kaylyn Landahl (Brookfield, Ill.). Landahl won the first set 6-1, but Merrill responded to win the second by a 6-0 final to force a deciding third set. Landahl captured the third by 6-2 to win the match and to complete the sweep for Clark.

Gates and Tchantouridze teamed for a win at first doubles, Tarbox and Dunnell won at No.2, and Benson and Zahara Shidad (Lewiston, Maine) paired for a victory at No. 3 doubles.

Curry returns home on Tuesday, October 9 as they are set to host Lesley University at 3:30 p.m. Clark will next host Worcester State on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
