Women's Tennis Falls to Rhode island College, 8-0

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team was swept by visiting Rhode Island College, 8-0, in non-conference play on Thursday afternoon at the Trent J. Scott '96 Tennis Courts.

The Anchorwomen improved to 10-0 overall. The Colonels fall to 0-12 on the season.

Rhode Island College made quick work of Curry in doubles play across the three matchups. Katherine Braganca (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Laurel Ten Enk (Warwick, R.I.) doubled up Sidara Cash-Sortwell (South Portland, Maine) and Hannah Faghan (Whitman, Mass.) 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Grace Zangari (Saunderstown, R.I.) and Hailey Raskob (North Smithfield, R.I.) blanked Kelsie Merrill (Hope, Maine) and Samantha Gilbert (Bedford, Mass.) 8-0 at No. 2. The Anchorwomen closed out the doubles sweep with an 8-3 victory for Emily Orticerio (Smithfield, R.I.) and Kaitlyn Koller (North Smithfield, R.I.) over Hollie Wallace (Wrentham, Mass.) and Rosario Robidoux (Agawam, Mass.) at No. 3.

Five of the six singles matches were finished off in straight sets. The match between Victoria Vittori (New Bedford, Mass.) and Faghan at number two singles split the first two sets. After Vittori won the first set 6-0, Faghan responded by winning the second in a tiebreak, 7-6. The match was then suspended because of darkness. Rhode Island College only dropped five games in the remaining five singles matches.

Curry will next play on Saturday, October 6 at Clark University at noon. Rhode Island College will host Salem State in its next contest on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
