Women's Tennis Bested By Roger Williams, 9-0

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Curry College women's tennis team was defeated by a 9-0 final at the hands of Roger Williams University on Wednesday afternoon. The win propels the Hawks 6-4 overall and 3-3 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) while the loss drops the Colonels to 0-11 overall and 0-7 in the CCC.

Roger Williams started the match with a 3-0 sweep of doubles action. Taryn Roche (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and Riley Spillane (Easton, Mass.) blanked Hannah Faghan (Whitman, Mass.) and Sidara Cash-Sortwell (South Portland, Maine) by an 8-0 final at first doubles. Libby Bennett (Watertown, Conn.) and Morgan Crimmins (Boston, Mass.) took down the second doubles pair of Alison Daigle (Edgartown, Mass.) and Rosario Robidoux (Agawam, Mass.), 8-2. The Hawks closed out doubles play as Tanya Gianitsos (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and Samantha Rivkin (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) defeated Rachel Lawlor (Meriden, Conn.) and Skylar Lewis (Tiverton, R.I.) 8-2 at No. 3.

Roger Williams continued the momentum into singles play, only dropping four games in the six matches. The closest match of the afternoon came at No. 5 as Bennett took down Lewis, 6-2 and 6-0.

Curry will return to the court on Thursday, October 4 at home against Rhode Island College at 4:00 p.m. Roger Williams next plays on Friday, October 5 in a home match against Salve Regina at 4:00 p.m.
