Women's Tennis Knocked Off By Eastern Nazarene, 8-1

QUINCY, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team lost to former conference member Eastern Nazarene College by an 8-1 final on Monday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.

Eastern Nazarene won all three doubles matches and then took five of six singles points to seal the victory. The Lions improved to 6-0 overall while Curry dropped to 0-7 overall.

Eastern Nazarene won five singles matches in straight sets, with Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) setting the tone at the No. 1 spot. She bested Sidara Cash-Sortwell (South Portland, Maine) by finals of 6-0, 6-0. Adele Duval (Redding, Calif.) topped Hannah Faghan (Whitman, Mass.) at number two singles, 6-1, 6-0. Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) took down Alison Daigle (Edgartown, Mass.) by identical 6-1, 6-1 set scores at third singles. Jacquelin Arretche (Los Banos, Calif.) defeated Kelsie Merrill (Hope, Maine) 6-0, 6-1 at number four singles while Annelise Sherrill (Elk Grove, Calif.) beat Samantha Gilbert (Bedford, Mass.) in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 at fifth singles.  

Curry's lone point came from freshman Hollie Wallace (Wrentham, Mass.) against Carla Polanco (Revere, Mass.) at the No. 6 spot. After winning the first set, 6-3, Wallace dropped set two 6-3. She then responded by winning the third by a 6-4 final to salvage a point for the Colonels.

Curry will next travel to Roger Williams on Wednesday, September 26 at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Nazarene returns to the court on Thursday for a road match at Albertus Magnus at 3:15 p.m.
