Women's Tennis Falls to UMass Dartmouth in Non-League Tilt

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team was tripped up by UMass Dartmouth on Monday afternoon in non-league play by a 9-0 final. With the win, the Corsairs improve to 2-2 overall while the Colonels slip to 0-4 with the loss.

UMass Dartmouth started the match with a 3-0 sweep of doubles action. The Corsairs first doubles team of Jenna Lahaie (Lakeville, Mass.) and Jaime Fastino (Rehoboth, Mass.) defeated Hannah Faghan (Whitman, Mass.) and Alison Daigle (Edgartown, Mass.), 8-1. Michelle Aftandilian (Watertown, Mass.) and Jordan Martin (Taunton, Mass.) took down Curry's third double tandem of Rachel Lawlor (Meriden, Conn.) and Kelsie Merrill (Hope, Maine), 8-1. The closest doubles match of the day came at the number two spot as Monika Reining (Linsengericht, Germany) and Rachel Aftandilian (Watertown, Mass.) beat Sidara Cash-Sortwell (South Portland, Maine) and Rosario Robidoux (Agawam, Mass.), 8-3.

UMass Dartmouth continued its strong play into singles play, capturing all six matches in straight sets. The closest singles match of the day came at the number three spot as Michelle Aftandilian defeated Daigle 6-3, 6-4.

Curry will host Western New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference clash on Thursday afternoon that begins at 3:30 p.m. UMass Dartmouth heads to West Hartford, Conn. on Tuesday afternoon to take on Saint Joseph (Conn.) in a non-league dual-match beginning at 4:00 p.m.
