Women's Tennis Bested 9-0 by CCC Foe Roger Williams

MILTON, Mass.  - The Curry College women's tennis team fell to visiting Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Roger Williams, 9-0, at the Big Nine Courts on Saturday afternoon.  The loss drops the Colonels 0-6 on the season and 0-4 in the CCC, while the Hawks improve to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the CCC.

Roger Williams swept all six singles matches while also winning all three doubles sets.

RWU's No. 1 singles player, Katie Hughes (Westford, Mass.) won her match 6-0, 6-1 against Sidara Cash-Sortwell (South Portland, Maine).  The Hawk's No. 2 singles player Julie Akerman (Greenwich, Conn.) claimed her tilt verse Stephanie Leblanc (East Bridgewater, Mass.), 6-0, 6-1. In No. 3 singles, the Colonels Alison Daigle (Edgartown, Mass.) was bested by Gabby Riley (Barnstable, Mass.), 6-2, 6-3. Jess Magliato (New Rochelle, N.Y.) earned the No. 4 singles win for RWU, 6-0, 6-0 by defeating Kelsie Merrill (Hope, Maine). The Hawks Dana Englander (North Haledon, N.J.) earned 6-1, 6-0 wins over April Miller (Newton, N.H.). Curry's Sam Gilbert (Bedford, Mass.) was ousted by RWU's Morgan Crimmins (Boston, Mass.), 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 position.

In doubles, the No.1 pair Hughes and Akerman outlasted the Colonels Cash-Sortwell and Alex Petrucci (Wakefield, R.I.) by a score of 8-0.  The No. 2 duo of Riley and Heidi Martin (Scituate, Mass.) bested Curry's Leblanc and Merrill, 8-0.  In the final match on the day, No.3 Hawks doubles partners, Allie Grinavic (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Ali Stankiewicz (Brunswick, Maine) earned an 8-1 victory over Miller and Gilbert.

The Colonels return to action on Wednesday, September 20 at 3:30 when they host Lesley.  The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, September 19, when they travel to Eastern Nazarene in a 3:30 p.m. CCC match.
