Women's Tennis Falls to CCC Foe Eastern Nazarene, 7-2

MILTON, Mass.  - The Curry College women's tennis team fell to visiting Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Eastern Nazarene, 7-2, at the Big Nine Courts on Thursday afternoon.  The loss drops the Colonels 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in the CCC, while the Lions improve to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the CCC.

The Colonels took one doubles match and one out of six singles matches.  The Lions won the first two doubles match and won five straight singles matches to earn their first victory of the season.

ENC No. 1 singles player, Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) won her match 6-0, 6-2 against Sidara Cash-Sortwell (South Portland, Maine).  The Lion's No. 2 singles player Adele Duval (Reading, Calif.) claimed her tilt verse Alexis McLea-Perry (Plymouth, Mass.), 6-3, 6-0. In No. 3 singles, the Colonels Stephanie Leblanc (East Bridgewater, Mass.) was bested by Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.), 6-0, 6-1. Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown. Pa) earned the No. 4 singles win for ENC, 6-1, 6-3 by defeating April Miller (Newton, N.H.). The Lions Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) earned 6-0, 6-0 wins over Samantha Gilbert (Bedford, Mass.). Curry's Rosario Robidoux (Agawam, Mass.) defeated Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.), 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 6 position.

In doubles, the No.1 pair Ruttkowski and Duval outlasted the Colonels Cash-Sortwell and Miller by a score of 8-1.  The No. 2 duo of Perry and Robidoux were bested ENC's Steelman and Cressman, 8-2.  In the final match on the day, No.3 Colonels doubles partners, Leblanc and Merrill earned an 8-2 victory over Jimenez and Tubbs.

The Colonels return to action on Saturday, September 9 at 12:00 when they travel to CCC opponent Western New England.  The Lions return to action also on Saturday, September 9, when they take on Wentworth in a 12:00 p.m. CCC match.
