Women's Tennis Outlasted 5-3 by Non-Conference Foe UMass. Boston

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team fell to visiting UMass. Boston, 5-3, at the Big Nine Courts on Thursday afternoon. With the loss the Colonels fall to 1-13 on the season while the Beacons improve to 6-5 overall.

UMB swept all three doubles matches while the Colonels took three of five singles matches played.  One singles match could not be completed therefor neither team earned the win.

The Beacons No. 1 singles player, Kristy Garcia (Miami, Fla.) won her match 6-4, 6-0 against Keeley Hardy (Charleston, S.C.). Curry's No. 2 singles player Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.) defeated Kathleen Conroy (Quincy, Mass.), 7-5, 6-4. In No. 3 singles, the Colonels Laura Ferris (Shelton, Conn.) and the Beacons Meghan Erickson (Hubbardston, Mass.) were unable to finish their match leaving neither team with a point.  Stephanie Leblanc (East Bridgewater, Mass.) earned the No. 4 singles win for Curry, 8-6, 7-5 besting Kelsey Shea (West Bridgewater, Mass.). The Colonel's Alexis Mclea-Perry (Plymouth, Mass.) outlasted Vicky Woytowicz (Springfield, Mass.), 4-6, 6-4, 10-3 at the No. 5 slot and at the No. 6 slot UMB's Maria Benatuil (Caracas, Venezuela) claimed her tilt verse Curry's Jennifer Dube (Coventry, Conn.), 6-1, 6-3.

In doubles, the No.1 pair Garcia and Katie Gauthier (West Boylston, Mass.) earned an 8-1 victory over the Colonels Hardy and Prete. The No. 2 duo of Shea and Woytowicz bested Curry's Ferris and Dube, 8-4. In the final match on the day, No.3 Beacon's doubles partners, Conroy and Valeria Tueme (Easton, Mass.) outlasted Mclea-Perry and Leblanc, 8-2.

The Colonels return to action on Friday, October 14 at 3:00 p.m. when they host non-conference opponent Mount Ida. The Beacons return to action on Saturday, October 15, when they host Bridgewater State in a 1:00 p.m. match.
