Women's Tennis Bested by Salem State, 9-0

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team fell to visiting Salem State, 9-0, at the Big Nine Courts on Wednesday afternoon.  With the loss the Colonels fall to 0-12 on the season, while the Vikings improve to 2-9 overall.

Salem swept all six singles matches and all three double matches.

The Vikings No. 1 singles player, Madeline Allaire (Columbus, Ohio) won her match 6-1, 6-0 against Keeley Hardy (Charleston, S.C.).  Salem's No. 2 singles player Cassie Morrison (Clinton, Mass.) outlasted Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.), 6-1, 4-6, 11-9. In No. 3 singles, the Colonels Laura Ferris (Shelton, Conn.) was bested by Ann Spence (Attleboro, Mass.), 6-4, 6-4. Meredith Macdonald (Lynn, Mass.) earned the No. 4 singles win for Salem, 7-6, 6-3 by defeating Stephanie Leblanc (East Bridgewater, Mass.). The Viking's Kristin Klimowicz (Ipswich, Mass.) claimed her tilt verse Alexis Mclea-Perry (Plymouth, Mass.), 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 5 slot. In the final singles match, Salem's Melina Mavroforos (Amesbury, Mass.) defeated Curry's Jennifer Dube (Coventry, Conn. ), 6-2, 6-3 at No.6.

In doubles, the No.1 pair Allaire and Spence earned an 8-4 victory over the Colonels Hardy and Prete.  The No. 2 duo of MacDonald and Mavroforos bested Curry's Ferris and Katelyn Harrington (Westport, Mass.), 8-6.  In the final match on the day, No.3 Viking's doubles partners, Morrison and Klimowicz outlasted and Leblanc, 8-5.

The Colonels return to action on Thursday, October 13 at 3:00 p.m. when they host non-conference opponent UMass.-Boston.  The Vikings return to action on Saturday, October 15, when they host Western Connecticut in a 1:00 p.m. match.
