Women's Tennis Earns First Win of the Season Defeating Anna Maria College, 6-3

MILTON, Mass.  - The Curry College women's tennis team defeated visiting Anna Maria College, 6-3, at the Big Nine Courts on Friday afternoon.  With the win the Colonels improve to 1-2 on the season, while the AMCATS fall to 0-2 overall.

The Colonels took two out of three doubles matches and four out of six single matches.  The AMCATS earned the first doubles match and won the first two singles matches to earn their three wins on the day.

Anna Maria No. 1 singles player, Jessica Gautieri (No. Attleboro, Mass.) won her match 6-0, 6-3 against Keeley Hardy (Charleston, S.C.).  The AMCATS's No. 2 singles player Johanna Dean (Carrollton, Texas) claimed her tilt verse Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.), 7-6, 11-9. In No. 3 singles, the Colonels Laura Ferris (Shelton, Conn.) bested Laura Cabral (Fall River, Mass.), 6-1, 6-1. Katelyn Harrington (Westport, Mass.) earned the No. 4 singles win for Curry, 6-1, 6-1 by defeating Marissa Leonard (Billerica, Mass.). The Colonels Alex Moschetto (Hampton Falls, N.H.) earned 6-1, 6-0 wins over Casey Lacasse (Auburn, Maine) and at the No. 6 position Taylor Johnson (Abington, Mass.) defeated Anna Maria's Sophia Wackell (Millbury, Mass.), 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, the No.1 pair Gautieri and Dean outlasted the Colonels Hardy and Prete by a score of 9-8.  The No. 2 duo of Ferris and Harrington bested Anna Maria's Cabral and Leonard, 8-0.  In the final match on the day, No.3 Colonels doubles partners, Jennifer Dube (Coventry, Conn.) and Stephanie Leblanc (East Bridgewater, Mass.) earned an 8-0 victory over Lacasse and Wackell.

The Colonels return to action on Saturday, September 10 at 12:00 when they host CCC opponent Gordon College.  The AMCATS return to action on Tuesday, September 13, when they travel to Clark in a 5:00 p.m. match.
