Women's Tennis Suffers an 8-1 Loss to CCC Foe Wentworth

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team fell to visiting Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Wentworth, 8-1, at the Big Nine Courts on Saturday afternoon.  With the win the Leopards improve to 3-7 on the season and 1-5 in the CCC, while the Colonels fall to 3-7 overall and 0-6 in the CCC.

The Leopards swept all three double matches and won five of six singles matches.

Wentworth's No. 1 singles player, Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) won her match 6-2, 6-1 against Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.).  Curry's No. 2 singles player Kimberly Love (Windsor Locks, Conn.) claimed her tilt and her teams only win on the day verse Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.), 6-2, 6-1. The Leopards went on to win the next five singles matches however the Colonels played well with each match being close.  In No. 3 singles, Curry's Hannah Erickson (Mount Desert, Maine) was bested by Emily Jodoin (Burrillville, R.I.), 7-5, 10-6. Ellen Butts (Brookfield, Mass.) earned the No. 4 singles win for Wentworth outlasting Laura Ferris (Shelton, Conn.), 7-6, 10-7. The Leopard's Kelsey DeGouveia (New Bedford, Mass.) earned 6-4, 6-2 wins over Katelyn Harrington (Westport, Mass.) and at the No. 6 position Sam Webb (Westminster, Md.) defeated Curry's Alex Moschetto (Hampton Falls, N.H.), 6-4, 6-4.

In doubles, the No.1 pair Briggs and Jodoin earned an 8-6 triumph over the Colonels Prete and Love.  The No. 2 duo of McColgan and Butts bested Curry's Erickson and Harrington, 8-6.  In the final match on the day, No.3 Leopard's doubles partners, Nicole Mooney (Waterford, Conn.) and DeGouveia outlasted Ferris and Gabriella Tedeschi (East Greenwich, R.I.), 8-3.

The Colonels return to action on Monday, September 28 at 3:30 when they travel to Rhode Island College.  The Leopards return to action also on Monday, September 28, when they travel to Johnson & Wales for a 3:30 match.
