Women's Tennis Downs Anna Maria, 8-1

PAXTON, Mass.—The Curry College women's tennis team won all three doubles matches and five out of six singles matches to take an 8-1 win against the AMCATS of Anna Maria College on Friday afternoon in non-conference action at the Paxton Sports Center.

With the win, Curry improves to 2-3 on the season, while the loss drops the AMCATS to 1-2.

Junior Callie Mulcahy (Charlton, Mass.) had a tough dual in the No. 3 singles slot, but she prevailed over Curry's Hannah Erickson with a 6-3 win in the first set and a 7-6 win on a 10-8 tiebreaker to win the second set.

Mulcahy and freshman Ashley Fernandes (West Bridgewater, Mass.) had a close match at No. 2 doubles, as they forced Curry's Kaitlyn Harrington and Laura Ferris to extra games, where the Colonel pair held on for a 9-7 win.

Sophomore Nicola Zamira (Mashpee, Mass.) also had a battle in singles, as she and Curry's Kayla Prete split their sets at No. 1 singles to force a tiebreaking third set, which Prete won by a score of 10-8.

Zamira teamed up with Rodriquez at No. 1 doubles as well, where they were defeated 8-4 by Prete and teammate Kimberly Love.

Prete, Love, Ferris, Harrington and Alexandra Moschetto all finished 2-for-2 on the day for Curry, as they all earned wins in doubles and their respective singles matches.

The AMCATS will return action on Tuesday when they host Clark University in a 3:00 p.m. tilt at the Paxton Sports Center.  The Colonels return to action on Wednesday, September 16 when they travel to Endicott College in a 3:00 p.m. match start.  (Match Recap Courtesy of Anna Maria Sports Information)
