MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team fell to visiting Anna Maria, 9-0, at the Big Nine Courts on Friday afternoon. With the win the AMCATS improve to 1-4 on the season, while the Colonels fall to 0-9 overall.
Anna Maria swept all six singles matches and all three double matches.
Anna Maria's No. 1 singles player, sophomore Jessica Gautieri (No. Attleboro, Mass.) won her match 6-1, 6-0 against sophomore Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.). Senior No. 2 singles player Nicole Goudreau (Harrisville, R.I.) claimed her tilt verse freshman Laura Ferris (Shelton, Conn.) , 6-1, 6-3. In No. 3 singles, the Colonels freshman Alexandra Moschetto (Hampton Falls, N.H.) was bested by freshman Nicola Zamira (Mashpee, Mass)., 6-1, 6-1. Junior Katelyn Edelson (Berlin, Conn.) earned the No. 4 singles win for Anna Maria, 6-2, 6-3 by defeating senior Alison Rhodes (Rye, N.H.). The AMCATS sophomore Callie Mulcahy (Charlton, Mass.) earned 6-0, 6-0 wins over freshman Jennifer Dube (Coventry, Conn.) and at the No. 6 position sophomore Marissa Leonard (Mashpee, Mass.) defeated freshman Sanjay Toure (Brockton, Mass.), 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, the No. 1 duo of Gautieri and Goudreau bested Ferris and Prete, 8-0. The No. 2 pair of Goudreau and Zamir defeated Moschetto and Rhodes, 8-5. In the final match on the day, No.3 doubles partners, Mulcahy and Leonard outlasted Toure and Dube, 8-1.
The Colonels return to action on Monday, September 29 at 3:30 when they host Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Gordon. The AMCATS return to action on Sunday, September 28, when they host Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Simmons for a 12:00 match.
