Women's Tennis Upended 9-0 by Visiting CCC Opponent Western New England

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team fell to visiting Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Western New England, 9-0, at the Big Nine Courts on Saturday afternoon.  With the win the Golden Bears improve to 5-3 on the season and 2-2 in the CCC, while the Colonels fall to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the CCC.

The Golden Bears swept all six singles matches and all three double matches.

Western New England No. 1 singles player, freshman Lauren Sell (Milford, Conn.) won her match 6-2, 6-0 against junior Kimberly Love (Windsor Locks, Conn.).  Sophomore No. 2 singles player Joeanna Glantz (Agawam, Mass.)  claimed her tilt verse sophomore Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.), 6-1, 6-3. The Golden Bears pair also won their No. 1 doubles match, 8-0 over Love and Prete.

In No. 3 singles, the Colonels junior Hannah Erickson (Mount Desert, Maine) was bested by freshman Christina D'Agostino (Bohemia, N.Y., 6-1, 6-4. Junior Kelly Byrnes (Berlin, Conn.) earned the No. 4 singles win for Western New England, 6-2, 6-1 by defeating freshman Laura Ferris (Shelton, Conn.). The Golden Bears sophomore Corey St. Louis (Groton, Conn.) earned 6-3, 6-1 wins over freshman Alexandra Moschetto (Hampton Falls, N.H.) and at the No. 6 position senior Michele Magliulo (Manorville, N.Y.) defeated senior Alison Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) 6-2, 6-0.

In doubles, the No. 2 duo of Byrnes and D'Agostino bested Ferris and Erickson, 8-3.  In the final match on the day, No.3 doubles partners, freshmen Jessica Breitweg (Bohemia, N.Y.) and Alice Mathews (Scarborough, Maine) outlasted Rhodes and freshman Jennifer Dube (Coventry, Conn.), 8-2.

The Colonels return to action on Tuesday, September 23 at 3:00 when they host conference opponent Salve Regina.  The Golden Bears also return to action on Tuesday, September 23, when they host CCC opponent Roger Williams for a 3:30 match.
