Women's Tennis Shut Out, 8-0, by Non-Conference Foe Salem State

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team fell to visiting Salem State, 8-0, at the Big Nine Courts on Thursday afternoon.  With the win the Vikings earn their first win to start their season improving to 1-0, while the Colonels fall to 0-4 overall.

The Vikings swept all six singles matches and all three double matches.

Salem States No. 1 singles player, junior Jennifer Cleary (Swampscott, Mass.) won her match 6-3, 6-0 against junior Kimberly Love (Windsor Locks, Conn.).  Junior No. 2 singles player April McDermott (Tewksbury, Mass.) claimed her tilt verse sophomore Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.), 6-2, 6-4. The Vikings pair also won their No. 1 doubles match, 8-3 over Love and Prete.

In No. 3 singles, the Colonels freshman Laura Ferris (Shelton, Conn.) was bested by senior Lauren Woods (Burlington, Mass.) 6-0, 6-0. Junior Hillary Gustafson (Belchertown, Mass.) earned the No. 4 singles win for Salem State by defeating junior Hannah Erickson (Mount Desert, Maine), 6-1, 6-2.  The Vikings sophomore Kat Troisi (Lynn, Mass.) earned 7-5, 6-3 wins over freshman Alexandra Moschetto (Hampton Falls, N.H.) at the No. 5 slot.  The Colonels had to forfeit at the No. 6 position due to a player injury.

In doubles, the No. 2 duo of Gustafson and Troisi bested Ferris and Erickson, 8-2.  In the final match on the day, No.3 doubles partners, Woods and senior Emily Yanchun (Saugus, Mass.) outlasted Moschetto and senior Alison Rhodes (Rye, N.H.), 8-0.

The Colonels return to action on Monday, September 15 at 5:00 when they travel to Clark.  The Vikings will return to action on Thursday, September 18, when they travel to Endicott for a 3:30 match.
