Women's Tennis Blanked by Holy Cross, 9-0

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team fell to visiting Holy Cross, 9-0, at the Big Nine Courts on Monday afternoon.  With the win, Holy Cross improves to 4-3 on the season, while the Colonels fall to 7-4 overall.

The Crusaders swept all six singles matches and all three double matches. 

Holy Cross No. 1 singles player, freshman Virginia Peck-Philips (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) won her match 6-4, 6-0 against senior Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, Mass.).  Sophomore No. 2 singles player Taylor Stathis (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) claimed her tilt verse senior Emily Mongello (Plymouth, Mass.), 6-0, 6-0. The Crusaders pair also won their No. 1 doubles match, 8-2 over Mongello and senior Lauren Chuha (Reading, Mass.).

In No. 3 singles, the Colonels freshman Molly Louis (Guilford, Conn.) was bested by sophomore Jaclyn Carroll (Tewksbury, Mass.) 6-0, 6-0. Senior Molly Montgomery (Winnetka, Ill.) earned the No. 4 singles win for Holy Cross, 6-1, 6-2 by defeating Chuha. The Crusaders duo also won their No. 2 doubles match over Mulrooney and sophomore Kimberly Love (Windsor Locks, Conn.), 8-2.

Holy Cross freshman Marielle Newell (St. Louis, Mo.) knocked off freshman Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.) at No. 5 singles match, 6-1, 6-0, while sophomore Crusader No. 6 singles player Addie Devine (Cumberland Foreside, Maine) recorded the straight set, 6-0, 6-0 triumph over the Colonels senior Devin Curley (Marshfield, Mass.). Newell and Devine teamed up in No. 3 doubles to win the match, 8-3 over senior Elizabeth Zarkades (Beverly, Mass.) and Curley.

The Colonels return to action on Wednesday, October 2 at 3:30 when they host conference opponent Nichols at 3:30.  The Crusaders will return to action on Tuesday, Oct 1, when they host Stonehill for a 3:30 match.
