Women's Tennis Falls to Johnson & Wales 5-4 in Season Opener

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University women's tennis team opened the 2013 season with a 5-4 victory against Curry College in a non-conference contest at the Moses Brown Courts on Thursday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales took the early 2-1 lead after doubles play, including an 8-3 win at the No. 2 spot by senior Darcy Predieri (Sudbury, Ohio) and freshman Morgan Thompson who defeated senior Lauren Chuha (Reading, Mass.) and sophomore Kimberly Love (Windsor Locks, Conn.).  Junior Samantha Jo Borr (Westfield, N.J.) and fellow junior Stephanie Piperis (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) posted an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles for the Wildcats against the Colonels senior Emily Mongello (Plymouth, Mass.) and freshman Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.).  Borr also notched a 6-1, 6-4 wins at the top singles spot for JWU verse Curry's senior Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, Mass.).

With the win Johnson & Wales is now 1-0 on the year while Curry falls to 0-1 for the year.  The Wildcats will return to action on Tuesday, September 10th when they travel to Regis for a non-conference contest at 5:00 p.m.  The Colonels host CCC opponent Eastern Nazarene on September 7 at 12:00 p.m.
