Women's Tennis Sweeps Western New England, 5-0, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Quarterfinal Match

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's tennis team swept Western New England University 5-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference quarterfinal match on Thursday afternoon. With the win the Colonels advance to the semi-final match at top-seeded Nichols College played on Wednesday, October 17 at 2:00 p.m.

The Colonels improve their overall record to 9-5.  The Golden Bears sink to 4-8 overall on the season.

Curry claimed all three doubles points and needed victories in two singles matches to secure a 5-0 victory.

In doubles matches, juniors Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, Mass.) and Emily Mongello (Plymouth, Mass.) defeated senior Linda Mustafa (Chicopee, Mass.) and junior Kelsey Grode (Fairview, Pa.), 8-1 at the top slot. Senior Alysha Lesieur (Hudson, R.I.) and junior Gillian Adams (Carmel, N.Y.) dropped an 8-3 decision at #2 to junior Lauren Chuha (Reading, Mass.) and freshman Kimberly Love (Windsor, Conn.). At the #3 position, juniors Devin Curley (Marshfield, Mass.) and Elizabeth Zarkades (Beverly, Mass.) took care of junior Ashley Lauricella (Monroe, Conn.) and freshman Juliette Cormier (Leominster, Mass.), 8-1.

The Colonels were able to get the sweep in two singles matches.  Mulrooney took care of her opponent, Mustafa, 6-1, 6-0, and Chuha handled junior Lindsey Brudvig (Plattsburg, N.Y.), 6-2, 6-0 to help advance their team to the semi-final round. 

Curry will host Bridgewater State University on October 15 in a 3:30 match.  The Golden Bears will travel to St. Joseph's (Conn.) on October 13 for a 12:00 p.m. start.
