2012 All-CCC Women's Tennis Teams Announced

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - All nine institutions that sponsor women’s tennis from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) were represented on the 2012 All-CCC Women’s Tennis Team,  it was announced today by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.  In addition to the all-conference team, four major individual award winners and the team sportsmanship award winner were also selected.

Nichols College junior Anna Dyakiv was named CCC Player of the Year for the third consecutive year, and Wentworth’s Caitlin Corcoran was recognized as the CCC Rookie of the Year.  Western New England’s Linda Mustafa was picked as the CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Nichols’ Paul Brower was honored as CCC Coach of the Year.  Gordon College was the recipient of the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Voting for the All-CCC team and the major awards was conducted among CCC head women’s tennis coaches.

Joining Dyakiv on the first team for singles were Lindsay Benoit (Nichols), Emilie Cloutier (Endicott), Samantha Curran (Roger Williams), Tracy Klein (Roger Williams), Chrissy Martel (Endicott), and Megan Mulrooney (Curry).

First team doubles selections included the Nichols team of Alex Cifone and Benoit, the Endicott tandem of Natalie Egbert and Martel, as well as the Roger Williams duo of Klein and Curran.

Receiving honorable mention in doubles were the Wentworth pair of Corcoran and Virginia Ofer, the Endicott tandem of Heacox and Brittany Potter, the Gordon duo of Hickey and Drescher, and the Roger Williams twosome of Adriana Maconochie and Dutton.

Dyakiv, a junior from Amsterdam, N.Y., has contributed a great deal for the Bison during her three years on the team. The 2011 CCC Player of the Year and 2010 CCC Player and Rookie of the Year was recognized once again for her efforts on the court, and was selected as the 2012 CCC Player of the Year.  She will enter the 2012 CCC Championship with a 7-3 overall record from the #1 spot in the team’s lineup, which includes a perfect 4-0 record in conference action this fall. In doubles competition, Dyakiv has been impressive as well.  When paired up with teammate McQuiggan, the duo has posted an overall record of 6-1, including an unblemished CCC record at #2 doubles of 4-0.

Corcoran, a freshman from Brockton, Mass., has been an incredible addition to the Wentworth lineup.  Corcoran has an overall record of 6-6 in singles play at the #1 position.  In conference play she posted a 3-4 record at the #1 spot.  When teamed with Ofer at #1 doubles, the tandem has put up a 5-5 overall record, including a 3-2 tally in CCC play.

Mustafa, a senior pharmacy major from Chicopee, Mass., is closing out her tennis career for the Golden Bears, though she will continue at WNE for two more years for in-service requirements for her major.  On the court, Mustafa serves as captain of the Golden Bears team, playing in the #1 singles and #1 doubles positions. She posted a 5-6 overall record at the #1 singles spot, including a 4-4 record against conference opponents.  In the classroom, Mustafa has held a 3.83-4.0 grade point average every semester in the School of Pharmacy.  She works hard off the court participating in a 20 hour per week internship in the CVS pharmacy.  In the spring, Mustafa will be inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society, and she is also member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Pharmacy Honor Societies.

Brower, in his ninth season guiding both the women’s and men’s programs at Nichols, has directed the Bison women to an 11-4 overall record, including an untainted 8-0 mark in conference play.  In 2011, he guided the women’s team to an undefeated regular season in CCC play and to the finals of the conference tournament, while in 2010 Nichols captured the CCC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, finishing with a program-record 21 wins.  This is Brower’s third time collecting CCC Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year accolades.
