Women's Tennis Defeats Emmanuel College 6-3

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women’s tennis team defeated Emmanuel College 6-3 on Thursday afternoon.  The Colonels improve to 6-5 overall while the Saints fell to 6-4. 

Curry claimed all three doubles points and three out of the six singles matches to sport the 6-3 non-conference victory.

In doubles matches, juniors Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, Mass.) and Emily Mongello (Plymouth, Mass.) defeated juniors Amanda Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) and Jenny Konecnik (Sparta, N.J.) in a tie breaking set, 9-8 (7-5) at the top slot.  Sophomore Jenni Hewes (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and senior Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.) dropped an 8-1 decision at #2 to junior Lauren Chuha (Reading, Mass.) and freshman Kimberly Love (Windsor, Conn.).  At the #3 position, juniors Devin Curley (Mansfield, Mass.) and Elizabeth Zarkades (Beverly, Mass.) took care of freshmen Rachel Smith (Weymouth, Mass.) and Katrina Gaddis (Wayland, Mass.), 8-4.

The Colonels were successful in their top three singles matches, while the Saints earned points at the #4, #5, and #6 spots.  Mulrooney defeated Woznicki, 10-1 at #1, Mongello edged Reid, 10-8, at #2 and Love came with a 10-7 decision over Konecnik at #3.  Chuha suffered a loss at #4 to Hewes, 10-6, freshman Daniela Tueme (South Easton, Mass.) handled Zarkades at #5, 11-4 and Emmanuel’s Smith earned her team’s final point when she knocked off Curley at the #6 slot.

Curry will host Gordon College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match on October 3 in a 3:30 start.  Emmanuel will travel to Rhode Island College on September 29 for a 12:00 p.m. match start.
