Women's Tennis Sweeps Conference Foe Western New England, 9-0

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's tennis team swept Western New England University 9-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Tuesday afternoon. The Colonels even their record at 5-5 overall and 3-3 in the CCC.  The Golden Bears sink to 2-7 overall and 1-5 in league matches.

Curry claimed all three doubles points and all three singles matches to sport a 9-0 victory. 

In doubles matches, juniors Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, Mass.) and Emily Mongello (Milton, Mass.) defeated senior Linda Mustafa (Chicopee, Mass.) and sophomore Valerie Conway (Cumberland, R.I.) 8-2 at the top slot. Senior Alysha Lesieur (Hudson, R.I.) and junior Kelsey Grode (Fairview, Pa.) dropped an 8-2 decision at #2 to junior Lauren Chuha (Reading, Mass.) and freshman Kimberly Love (Windsor, Conn.). At the #3 position, juniors Devin Curley (Marshfield, Mass.) and Elizabeth Zarkades (Beverly, Mass.) took care of freshmen Kelly Byrnes (Berlin, Conn.) and Juliette Cormier (Leominster, Mass.), 8-2.

The Colonels were successful in all six singles matches.  Mulrooney defeated Mustafa at #1, Mulrooney edged Conway at #2, Lesieur suffered a loss at #3 to the Colonels' Love, Chuha handled junior Lindsey Brudvig (Plattsburg, N.Y.) at #4, Zarkades conquered junior Gillian Adams (Carmel, N.Y.) at #5 and junior Ashley Lauricella (Monroe, Conn.) fell to senior Kate Johnson (Beverly, Mass.) at the #6 slot.        

Curry will host Emmanuel College on September 27 in a 3:30 match.  The Golden Bears will host Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Wentworth on September 29 for a 12:00 p.m. start.
