Women's Tennis Captures 7-2 Victory Over Visiting Salem State

MILTON, Mass. - Junior Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, Mass.) and classmate Emily Mongello (Milton, Mass.) won both their singles and doubles matches as the Curry women's tennis team defeated Salem State, 7-2 on Monday afternoon.

The Colonels are now 4-5 overall. The Vikings even their record at 2-2 on the season.

Mulrooney captured the number one singles match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over junior Maddy Ward (Somerville, Mass.), while Mongello defeated her opponent, 6-4, 6-2 at number two against senior Michelle McEwen (Billerica, Mass).  The duo was victorious in their doubles match with an 8-3 decision at number one verse Ward and McEwen. Curry won two of out of three doubles matches in the event.  Salem earned a doubles match win when seniors Jessica Spinale (Saugus, Mass.) and Anna Saskell (Stockholm, Sweden) were victories at number two over junior Lauren Chuha (Reading, Mass.) and freshman Kimberly Love (Windsor Locks, Conn.), 8-4. 

Love, Chuha and senior Kate Johnson (Beverly, Mass.) each earned singles wins at #3, #4 and #6 respectively.  The Vikings scored its only singles point when freshman April McDermott (Tewksbury, Mass.) posted a 4-6, 6-1, 10-3 victory at number five over junior Elizabeth Zarkades (Beverly, Mass.).

The Colonels return to action on September 25, when they host Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Western New England for a 3:30 p.m. match.  The Vikings host Plymouth State University on September 26 at 3:30 p.m.
