Women's Tennis Falls to Nichols College, 7-2

WORCESTER, Mass. – First-year Michelle Keklik (Stratford, Conn.) and senior Jillian McQuiggan (Weymouth, Mass.) rallied from a 5-0 deficit to capture the second doubles flight 8-6 as host Nichols defeated Curry, 7-2, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference women’s tennis matchup on Thursday afternoon at Francis W. Robinson Courts. The Bison remain perfect in CCC action and improve to 6-4 on the year while the Colonels even out at 2-2 in league play and 3-3 overall.

The top pairing of senior Alex Cifone (Bristol, Conn.) and sophomore Lindsay Benoit (Holden, Mass.) bested Curry juniors Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, Mass.) and Emily Mongello (Milton, Mass.) 8-2 to put the Bison on the board. McQuiggan and Keklik then made their comeback against junior Lauren Chuha (Reading, Mass.) and freshman Kimberly Love (Windsor Locks, Conn.). Curry took the third singles flight as juniors Devin Curley (Marshfield, Mass.) and Elizabeth Zarkades (Beverly, Mass.) downed senior Megan Woodruff (Morris, Conn.) and junior Erin Rivers (Bristol, Conn.) 8-4.

McQuiggan quickly handled her opponent in a pair of 6-0 sets as Benoit registered a 6-3, 6-0 win at the first flight. Woodruff (6-4, 6-1) and junior Nicole Marziarz (Southington, Conn.) (6-1, 6-2) helped increase the Bison lead before Zarkades notched a second point for the visitors with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the sixth flight. Cifone closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph for Nichols.
