WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Curry College women's soccer team closed out its 2025 season on Tuesday evening, falling 7–0 to a high-powered University of Hartford squad at Al-Marzook Field.
Hartford (12–3–2, 7–3–0) wasted no time finding the net, scoring just 28 seconds into the match when Kathleen Brush buried a pass from Anastasia Nerney to give the hosts an early lead. The Hawks added two more goals within a minute span midway through the half—Nerney finished off a feed from Rebecca Opdenbrouw in the 16th minute, followed by Brush's second strike just 35 seconds later to make it 3–0.
Curry (4–9–5, 1–6–3) struggled to slow down Hartford's relentless attack, as Opdenbrouw and Morgan Egan each added first-half tallies to send the Hawks into the break with a commanding 5–0 advantage.
Despite the deficit, the Colonels showed resilience in the second half, limiting Hartford's looks and pushing forward for a few counterattacking chances. Senior defender Gabriella Wiesner recorded Curry's lone shot on goal, while Mia Schena and Sophia Curletti also generated attempts from distance.
Hartford continued to press, adding two more goals after halftime. Olivia Flores scored in the 64th minute off assists from Sophia Coer and Brush, and Caitlyn Kanter capped the scoring in the final minute of play with her first goal of the season.
Goalkeeper Lexi Smardon faced constant pressure but turned in a strong individual effort for Curry, finishing with nine saves on 16 shots on goal. Hartford's keepers Aislyn Rivera and Sejal Johnson combined for the shutout, with Johnson earning the win in relief.
Despite the tough result, Curry closes its season having battled through a competitive schedule and shown flashes of growth from a young roster that will look to build on its experience heading into 2026.
