BRIGHTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's soccer team defeated Simmons University 2-0 Wednesday evening in non-conference action at Daly Field.

With the victory, Curry improves to 4-2-0 overall on the season.

After the Colonels peppered the Simmons cage the entire opening half, they finally broke through in the 39th minute on the fifth goal of the season from graduate student Samantha Borges (Somerset, Mass.). Borges took a feed from junior Sydney Resendes (Coventry, R.I.) on the right side of the 18-yard box and tucked a shot inside the far post to break the ice.

Curry continued to control the contest after the halftime break, and Resendes put the game out of reach with an unassisted tally in the 83rd minute. Entering the box down the right wing, Resendes lofted a shot over the Shark goalkeeper and into the top corner of the net to stretch Curry's lead to 2-0.

By the time the final horn sounded, Curry held a 27-1 edge in total shots, and 13-1 edge in shots on goal. Curry also finished with a heavy advantage in corner kicks, outpacing Simmons by a mark of 11-1.

Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Correa (Carver, Mass.) stopped the only shot she faced on the evening to earn her second shutout of the season.

Next up for the Colonels, they will open Commonwealth Coast Conference play at home against Western New England on Saturday morning. Kick-off from Walter M. Katz Field is slated for 11 a.m.
