Women's Soccer Shuts Out Becker

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's soccer team got back in the win column, defeating Becker College by a 3-0 final in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field.

The Colonels (2-3-0 overall) scored twice in the first half and added a tally in the second to complete the shutout. Sophomore Samantha Borges (Somerset, Mass.) registered two goals while classmate Maddie Wilson (Millbury, Mass.) pitched in one to close out the scoring for Curry. Freshman goalkeeper Oliver Hutchinson (Scituate, Mass.) made six saves to secure his second career shutout.

Freshman Olivia Sherwood (Southington, Conn.) made three saves in goal for the Hawks, who dropped to 3-3-1 overall.

The Colonels wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as Borges tallied her second of the season in the ninth minute off a feed from right outside the box from sophomore Felicity Monfils (North Attleboro, Mass.) to give Curry the 1-0 advantage.

The Colonels tacked on another in the 22nd minute on the first marker of the season from Wilson. Randall sent a through ball to Wilson and she connected top shelf from about 25 yards out to increase the lead to 2-0 at the half.

Five minutes into the second half, Wilson sent a ball from the defensive side of the field all the way to 25 yards out of goal. Borges gathered the pass and shot it high over sophomore goalkeeper Lyndsey Cobb-Wilkins (Elmira, N.Y.) for the final goal of the 3-0 victory.

Becker held a 16-15 edge in total shots while Curry held a 10-8 advantage in shots on goal.

Curry will next play at Regis College on Sunday, September 15 at noon. Becker returns to action at home against Nichols College on Thursday, September 19 at 3:30 p.m.
