Women's Soccer Tripped Up At Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Skidmore College women's soccer came through with two goals in each half to lift them past Curry College, 4-1, on Friday afternoon in the season opener in the Union/Skidmore Invitational at Wachenheim Field.

With the win, the Thoroughbreds improved to 1-0-0 overall, while the loss dropped the Colonels to 0-1-0 overall.

Curry got on the board in the 11th minute into the contest on a goal from junior Isabella Shields (Lakeville, Mass.). The assists on the marker were credited to classmate Tayla Randall (Walpole, Mass.) and freshman Madison Conway (West Springfield, Mass.) to give the road team the early 1-0 advantage.

Skidmore netted the equalizer in the 16th minute as freshman Paige Karl (Chester, Vt.) scored her first collegiate goal as she beat two defenders off a pass and put a shot past Colonels' freshman goalkeeper Oliver Hutchinson (Scituate, Mass.). 

The Thoroughbreds added two more in the second half on tallies by junior Molly Kosh (Guilford, Conn.) and sophomore Carly Craft (Hanover, N.H.) for the 4-1 final.  

Skidmore outshot the Colonels 28-12 and had the edge in corners, 6-3.

Picking up the win in net for Skidmore was sophomore goalkeeper Ava Keller (Minneapolis, Minn.), who finished with three saves in 45 minutes of action. Classmate Vivian Montgomery-Walsh (Catonsville, Md.) played the last 45 minutes and recorded three saves. Hutchinson stopped nine shots in the loss for Curry.

The Colonels will stay in Upstate New York as the travel to Union College (N.Y.) for the second half of the Union/Skidmore Invitational on Saturday, August 31 for a 2:00 p.m. contest. The Thoroughbreds will next host William Patterson University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
