Women's Soccer Battles Gordon to 2-2 Draw in Regular Season Finale

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College and Gordon College played to a 2-2 double-overtime draw on Wednesday night in the regular season finale for both teams in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer action at Walter M. Katz Field.

The Colonels received two goals from Tayla Randall (Walpole, Mass.) while the Fighting Scots were fueled by a goal apiece from Monet Marshall (Redmond, Wash.) and Asha Steele (Bedford, N.H.). Curry goalkeeper Maggie Chamberlain finished with 21 saves—including four in overtime—while Gordon net minder Giselle Maso (Frisco, Texas) made five saves.

After a scoreless first half, the Colonels took the first lead of the contest as Randall scored off a breakaway for her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 46th minute off an assist from Sarah McGrath (North Dartmouth, Mass.). 20 minutes later, Marshall connected on a shot off a corner kick from Steele to knot the game at one.

Steele got in the scoring column with a tally in at the 79th going to Devin Lacroix (Candia, N.H.). The shot was one-timed off a cross from Lacroix and then put past Chamberlain to give the Fighting Scots a 2-1 advantage. Curry answered back at the 81:43 mark as Randall chipped a shot over Maso to tie the contest at two with less than nine minutes remaining in regulation for her ninth goal on the year.

Gordon held a 5-3 lead in shots in the two overtime periods but none found the back of the net as the match finished in a 2-2 draw.

Curry (8-9-2 overall, 1-5-1 CCC) will await the announcement of a possible bid to the ECAC Tournament for its next game. Gordon (10-6-1 overall, 5-2-1 CCC) has qualified for the CCC Tournament as the number two seed and will host seventh-seeded Wentworth in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
