Women's Soccer Volunteers at Jimmy Fund Walk

BOSTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's soccer team brought their positive energy to cheer on the walkers and runners who were taking steps to conquer cancer in the 30th annual Jimmy Fund Walk on Sunday, September 23, 2018.

Approximately 10,000 participants choose routes along the Boston Marathon course to walk 26.2 miles from Hopkinton, half marathon walk from Wellesley, 10K walk from Newton, and 5K walk from the Dana-Farber center. All the routes conclude at the Copley Square finish line in Boston.

The event raises money to support research and patient care at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute that includes more than 900 innovative, active clinical trials every year, support and resources for patients and their loved ones, and state-of-the-art facilities to bring effective treatments to patients.  The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute provides expertise to children and adults in cancer discoveries and the Jimmy Fund, founded in 1948, raises money to advance Dana-Farber's lifesaving mission.

"I am so thrilled to continue the tradition of cheering on the participants of the Jimmy Fund Walk as we look to kick cancer," said women's soccer Head Coach Brigida Palatino. "As someone who recently lost a brother-like figure, Chase Glidden (3/16/88-7/18/18) to a very rare cancer, this event symbolizes the strength and courage we all have inside of us to not allow cancer win. Cancer may take away the lives of our loved ones but can never take away the lasting impressions and memories of those we will forever love… and for that, we become stronger. This season the Colonel Troop is looking to "Chase" the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship in honor of Chase Glidden and those who will forever be with us."
