Women's Soccer Battles Wentworth to Double Overtime Scoreless Draw

MILTON, Mass. –  The Curry College women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 double overtime draw with the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Saturday morning at Walter M. Katz Field. 

With the tie, the Colonels move to 6-3-1 overall, 0-1-1 in conference play, while the Leopards sits at 4-2-2 on the season, 0-0-1 in CCC action.

Wentworth controlled the pace of play in the first half as they outshot Curry 11-7 in the opening stanza. Both teams had opportunities to score, four for the Leopards, and six for the Colonels, but goalkeepers Maggie Chamberlain (Taunton, Mass.) and Christie Fleming (Braintree, Mass.) turned away shot after shot in the first half to keep the match scoreless.

Curry had a slight edge in the shot category in the second half, 7-5, as neither team could find the back of the net.

The contest would eventually head into overtime with zeros on the scoreboard. Wentworth outshot the Colonels 3-0 in the first overtime while Curry's Isabella Shields (Lakeville, Mass.) fired a shot wide in the 108th minute. Ashley Molnar (Northridge, Calif.) had the lone shot for the Leopards in the second overtime.

Maddie Wilson (Millbury, Mass.) led the Colonels with five shots while Jess Poratti (Essex Junction, Vt.) paced Wentworth with six.

Fleming finished with nine saves against nine shots. Chamberlain also converted nine saves against nine shots.

Curry will next play at home on Tuesday, September 25 against Mass. Maritime at 6:30 p.m. Wentworth hosts the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday, September 26 at 7:00 p.m. for their next contest.
