Women's Soccer Closes Out Vermont Trip With Shutout of NVU-Lyndon, 5-0

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – The Curry College women's soccer team earned its second straight shutout victory, defeating Northern Vermont University-Lyndon by a 5-0 final at Varsity Field on Sunday afternoon. The win moves the Colonels to 3-1 while the Hornets dip to 1-4 overall.

Curry dominated play from the start, outshooting NVU-Lyndon an astounding 56-1 for the contest. The Colonels got on the board in the 25th minute when Tayla Randall (Walpole, Mass.) hooked a shot in from the right side to give the visitors the 1-0 advantage. Just 34 seconds later, Randall was back in the action when she assisted on a goal from Shae Breslin (Bridgewater, Mass.), who took a left footed shot from 25 yards out and got it past Lauren Young (Danville, Vt.) to put Curry up 2-0. Sarah Stearns (Middleboro, Mass.) closed out the scoring in the first half when in the 44th minute, Amanda DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.) crossed the ball in and Stearns finished it from eight yards out.

The Colonels controlled the action in the first half, outshooting the Hornets 26-0 while also having a 4-0 advantage in corners.

Curry added two more goals in the second half. They got the first one of the stanza in the 70th minute as freshman Lauren Clapper (New Bedford, Mass.) poked in a shot which was bobbled by the Victoria McCormack (East Lyme, Conn.). Sarah McGrath (North Dartmouth, Mass.) rounded out the scoring in the contest as she fired a shot from the top of the box and put it past the keeper.

The Colonels had nine corners to the Hornets' zero and held a 55-shot advantage in the contest.

DeMaio picked up her third shutout of the season, converting one save in the victory. Young was credited with the loss, making 18 saves in 70 minutes.

Curry returns to the field on Tuesday, September 11 at home against Clark University at 6:30 p.m. NVU-Lyndon will next play at home on Saturday, September 15 against Thomas at 1:00 p.m.
