Women's Soccer Shuts Out RIC in Season Opener, 2-0

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's soccer team opened the 2018 season with a 2-0 shutout of visiting Rhode Island College on Friday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field. With the victory, the Colonels move to 1-0 while the Anchorwomen fall to 0-1.

Curry dominated from the start, outshooting Rhode Island College 13-2 in the first half, two of which accounted for their goals. Just 6:09 into the contest, sophomore Tayla Randall (Walpole, Mass.) connected on a pass from Samantha Borges (Somerset, Mass.) and found the back of the net to put the Colonels up, 1-0. Later in the first half at the 30:12 mark, Borges finished off a pass from Maddie Wilson (Millbury, Mass.) to increase the lead to 2-0.

Katelyn DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.) preserved the clean sheet, converting four saves in 90 minutes in between the pipes.

The Colonels controlled all facets of the contest and led in shots (24-7) and had a slight edge in corners (4-3).

Brittany DeGrooth (Westerly, R.I.) paced the Anchorwomen with two shots while Erica Edwards (North Kingstown, R.I.) made 10 saves in net.  

Borges and Isabella Shields (Lakeville, Mass.) led Curry with seven shots each.

Curry (1-0) returns to action on Wednesday, September 5 when they host the University of Southern Maine at 6:30 p.m. Rhode Island College will play at Suffolk on Saturday, September 1 at 1 p.m.
