Women's Soccer Edged at University of New England 2-1 in CCC Action

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Katie Beaudoin netted a goal in each half as the University of New England picked up a 2-1 victory over Curry College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer action Wednesday evening (Oct. 18) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

With the win, the Nor'easters (7-7-2, 2-3-2 CCC) move ahead of the Colonels (8-6-3, 1-4-2 CCC) in the league standings with two contests remaining.

Beaudoin's first goal came in the 9th minute as she corralled the corner kick from Jessie Maywalt and poked it into the bottom right corner of the net.

Curry's lone tally evened things in the 21st minute, when Samantha McGrath and Cassandra Grasso sent Soleil Galagarza up the middle and Galagarza arced a left-footed shot under the crossbar from just inside the box.

The visitors nearly took the lead in the 60th minute, as Galagarza put one off the post. The rebound fell to Grasso, but her shot attempt was denied by a diving effort from UNE goalie Emily Ashman.

Beaudoin's 13th marker of the season followed in the 67th minute, when she settled a header clearance and rifled one from the top of the box bending away from the keeper inside the left post.

Ashman totaled seven saves for UNE to pick up the win, while Kristen Buzzotta had eight stops for the Colonels.

UNE wraps up its home schedule on Saturday (12 p.m.), hosting league-leading Endicott College (6-0-1 CCC). Curry is next in action on Friday, October 20 when they host CCC opponent Western New England in a 6:30 p.m. start.  (Game Recap Courtesy of University of New England Sports Information)
