Women's Soccer Edges Eastern Nazarene 2-1 in First Conference Win of the Season

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Women's Soccer team defeated visiting Eastern Nazarene, 2-1, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Saturday evening at the Walter M. Katz Field. With the win the Colonels improve to 8-3-3 on the season and 1-1-2 in the CCC while the Lions fall to 5-6 overall and 0-4 in the CCC.

ENC struck first with their lone goal of the game coming at the 36:50 minute mark of the opening half. Junior Kennedy Dowling (Nashua, N.H.) received a pass from freshman Kyndall Fry (Tampa, Fla.) inside the 18-yard box. Dowling collected the ball and one-timed it into the lower corner of the net past the glove of Curry's sophomore goaltender Kristen Buzzotta (Lynnfield, Mass.).  The Colonels struggled on offense unable to get by the Lions defense.  The team was only able to get off two shots with only one landing on net.  ENC's sophomore keeper Griselda Minchaca (Whittier, Calif.) made one save through 45 minutes of play.  The Lions held a slight advantage in shots at 5-2.  Buzzotta came up with two saves in the half.

The Colonels came out on fire in the second half and was more successful on the offensive end.  Curry had a demanding lead in shots at 11-6 while registering two tallies.  The tying score came off an unassisted goal by senior Hannah Wells (Whitman, Mass.) with ten minutes off the clock.  ENC pressured Curry's defense fighting to get the winning tally and earn their first conference win of the season but solid play in the backfield from the Colonels held them scoreless.  The game-winning goal was scored at the 71:27 mark by Curry's freshman Isabella Shields (Lakeville, Mass.).  Shields maneuvered with the ball around a Lions defender and struck it over the head of Minchaca.  Buzzotta had four stops to earn the victory.

Curry outshot Eastern Nazarene 13-11 and had 11 corners kick opportunities while the Lions had three.   

Buzzotta had six saves for the Colonels in net. Minchaca made three stops in net for ENC in the loss.

Curry returns to action on Tuesday, October 10 when they travel to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Roger Williams at 7:00 p.m.
