Women's Soccer Battles Non-Conference Opponent Framingham State to a 1-1 Double Overtime Tie

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Women's Soccer team battled visiting Framingham State to a 1-1, double overtime tie on Wednesday evening at the Walter M. Katz Field. The tie moves the Colonels to 7-3-3 on the season while the Rams move to 2-7-1.

Curry struck first with their lone goal of the game coming at just 4:22 into the contest.  Freshman Tayla Randall (Walpole, Mass.) received a pass from classmate Savannah Madden (Milton, Mass.) inside the 18-yard box. Randall collected the ball and one-timed it past the glove of Framingham's junior keeper Jennifer Stevens (Hopkinton, Mass.).  The Colonels held a slight advantage in shots at 5-3.  Curry's sophomore goaltender Kristen Buzzotta (Lynnfield, Mass.) came up with two saves over 45-minutes of play.

The Ram's controlled most of the second as they held a 7-3 margin in shots.  The Colonels landed just one of their shots on net while Framingham landed three including the tying goal.  The Rams tied the match at the 67:38 minute-mark off an unassisted score by junior Kayla Almstrom (Auburn, Mass.).  Both teams had chances to tally the go-ahead goal but fell short leading them into overtime.  Sophomore Haley Rice (Lexington, Mass.) replaced Buzzotta in net with 11 minutes remaining and made one stop.

Despite Curry dominating both 10-minute overtimes with a 6-1 lead in shots they couldn't find the back of net for the game-winner.  Stevens was solid between the posts for the Rams coming up with six of her game-high eight saves.   Rice finished out the game in goal for the Colonels as she was forced to make just one save over the extra 20-minutes.

Curry outshot Framingham State 14-11 while both squads had four corners kick opportunities.

Rice earned the tie in net for the Colonels as she made two saves in 30:49 minutes with a shutout. Buzzotta had three saves in 79:11 minutes giving up one goal. Stevens made eight stops in net for the Rams in the tie playing in all 110:00 minutes.

Curry returns to action on Saturday, October 7 when they host Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Eastern Nazarene for the Olivia Strong and Strong 4 Abby Night at 5:30 p.m.
