Women's Soccer Shuts Out Newbury College 10-0 in Non-Conference Play

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Women's Soccer team defeated visiting Newbury College, 10-0, on Monday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field. With the win the Colonels improve to 4-2-1 on the season while the Nighthawks drop to 0-7.

Curry was led with four-point efforts from seniors Jules Petrucelli (Milford, Conn.) and Korinna Tsonis (Dartmouth, Mass.) while freshmen Tayla Randall (Walpole, Mass.), Lexi Revis (Lincoln, R.I.) added four points as well.  Petrucelli and Revis netted two goals apiece while Tsonis and Randall each had a goal and two assists.

The Colonels got points from 12 different players in their 10 goal performance. Goal scorers included seniors Samantha McGrath (Carver, Mass.) and Hannah Wells (Whitman, Mass.), junior Shae Breslin (Bridgewater, Mass.) and sophomore Megan Ladner (Bourne, Mass.). Assist on goais came from seniors Amanda Crisfulla (Raynham, Mass.) and Cassandra Grasso (Wilmington, Mass.), sophomore Amber White (Barre, Mass.) and freshman Sarah McGrath (North Dartmouth, Mass.).

Curry tallied eight of their 10 goals in the first half.  Ladner struck first off an assist by Tsonis 3:29 into the match. Just under a minute later Breslin scored with help from Crisfulla.  At the 15:07 mark Tsonis earned her second assist on the night when she sent Wells a pass who one-timed it past the glove of Newbury's junior keeper Noelle Sass (Randolph, Mass.). Tsonis got on the board with a tally for her fifth point on the day with help from Grasso. Petrucelli netted back-to-back goals with one assisted by White. Revis also tallied two in a row to close out the half. She got assists from Randall and McGrath. The Colonels outshot the Nighthawks 35-0 over the 45 minutes of play.

The second frame saw Curry put up two more scores while the defense held Newbury without a shot. Randall had a hand in both as she assisted McGrath and put up the final goal of the game. The Colonels lead again in shots with 25 for a game total of 60. The Nighthawks were unsuccessful in the shot column as they had zero throughout 90 minutes of play.

Sophomore Kristen Buzzotta (Lynnfield, Mass.) earned the victory in net for the Colonels in 45:24 minutes. Sophomore Haley Rice (Lexington, Mass.) closed out the game playing in net for 45 minutes without facing a shot.  Sass made an impressive 24 stops in net for the Nighthawks in the loss.

Curry is back on the field on Wednesday when they travel to Fitchburg State for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference game. Newbury returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Wheelock College in an 11:00 a.m. start.
