Women's Soccer Falls to Springfield College 3-0 in the ECAC Region I Tournament

Springfield, Mass. - November 12, 2016 - The Springfield College women's soccer team advanced past Curry College in the semifinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Region 1 Championship Tournament on Saturday morning at Brock-Affleck Field. With the win, Springfield College will advance to the ECAC Region 1 Championship Game on Sunday, November 13 at 12 p.m., where it will take on the winner of Maine Maritime and Salve Regina.

The Pride owned a 29-7 shot advantage over 90 minutes of play, while also being awarded nine corner kicks to the Colonels' four. In net, junior goalkeeper Ciara Boucher (Manchester, Conn.) made six stops in between the pipes to preserve the clean sheet, while for Curry, Morgan Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.) posted eight saves in the setback before giving way to Kristen Buzzotta (Lynnfield, Mass.) who made one stop and Katelyn DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.) who finished out the game without a save.

Freshman Mackenzie Luiz (Newington, Conn.) netted a pair of goals in the contest that were both set up by senior Shannon Wells (Milton, Vt.). Luiz's goal with 21:36 remaining proved to be her first-career marker in a Springfield College uniform.

After a scoreless first half, Springfield College struck first with a goal just 3:14 into the second half when junior forward Mikaela Coady (Middletown, Conn.) received the ball at mid-field, beat her defender to the right side of the box, and delivered a low crossing pass to classmate Kim Quiles (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), who was able to find the back of the net to break the scoreless tie.

With 21:36 remaining in the contest, Wells sent a pass through multiple Curry defenders that reached Luiz for an easy finish, before the first-year struck again on a pass from Wells with 4:35 remaining to seal the victory for the Pride.   (Game Recap Courtesy of Springfield Sports Information)
