Curry Women's Soccer Upsets #4 University of New England in CCC Quarterfinals

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Curry College got a pair of second-half goals and an outstanding goalkeeping performance from Morgan Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.) to defeat the University of England, 2-1, in the quarterfinal round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship Saturday (Oct. 29) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

Devon Wolfenden had given the Nor'easters a 1-0 first-half lead, converting a feed from Anna Michaud with a high shot from just inside the 18 that eluded Stott's outstretched arms.

The Nor'easters held Curry without a shot in the opening 45 minutes while taking 12 of their own.

The Colonels drew even 4:07 into the second frame when a shot by Amanda Crisfulla (Raynham, Mass.) -- Curry's first of the afternoon -- hit the right post. Megan Ladner (Bourne, Mass.) was on the spot to clean up the rebound.

Kelly Parker (Branford, Conn.) would notch the game-winner in the 68th minute. Kaitlyn Lima (New Bedford, Mass.) found Parker with a pass from the middle of the field towards the left, and Parker deposited the feed into the back of the net from 16 yards away.

UNE nearly tied the match three minutes later, but a bid by Jessica Meader struck the right post and rolled wide.

Stott would make an outstanding save of a point-blank shot by Kara Hecker with 2:10 remaining to help preserve the victory. Stott finished with 13 saves, as the Nor'easters outshot Curry by a margin of 30-8.

Brielle Robinson had three stops for UNE.

The fifth-seeded Colonels (11-7-2) advance to host No. 8 Gordon College, a 2-1 upset winner over top-seeded Roger Williams University. The fourth-seeded Nor'easters conclude their season with a record of 9-6-2.
